Quality assurance
The General Medical Council (GMC) promotes and protects the health of the public by ensuring proper standards in medicine. The GMC produce guidance on Maintaining Good Medical Practice can be found at www.gmc-uk.org, and includes the following sections:

Keeping up to date
I am registered with The Royal College of Physicians for Continuous Professional Development; I exceed the minimum annual credit requirements each year.

Maintaining Performance
I am a well trained and experienced endoscopist.  My completion rate in colonoscopy is over 95% and my complication rate is less than 1 in 1000 procedures.  I regularly audit my performance in endoscopy, and have also been involved in several national and departmental audits, including the National IBD audit, the use and complications of intravenous nutrition, the quality and tolerability of bowel preparation for colonoscopy, infectious complications of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, and the prevalence of malnutrition in hospital inpatients.

Teaching and Training
I am a unit tutor and teach medical undergraduates from the University of Bristol Medical School. I am clinical and educational supervisor for Foundation year,
ST 1 and 2 doctors as well as Specialist Registrars.  I teach colonoscopy in NBT and at regional colonoscopy training courses.
